Hi ! I am Dr. Lauren Wisser and I have been a veterinarian in the Genesee Valley for over 16 years. I obtained my bachelors degree from Auburn University in 2000 and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2004. I work with cats, dogs, birds and most exotic pets.
Genesee Valley Visiting Vet, PLLC was established early in 2010 as an veterinary house call service. In home our services included examination, laboratory testing, vaccinations, and treating medical diseases, quality of life evaluation and euthanasia services. Over the years expansions included expanded service area, surgical facility and low income spay neuter clinics.
In light of COVID home visits have been modified to in the yard.
At this time we are not offering in office appointments, including surgical appointments. To get on our waiting list, please fill out our online form or email us at email@example.com and we will inform you when office visits are open in our new location! We are offering surgeries in our mobile unit. Please click the link above to our spay and neuter services for more information on scheduling this critical appointment.
Telemedicine appointments to diagnose and treat your pets common medical conditions. Some of the things that Dr. Lauren can help you and your pet with are ear infections, vomiting and/or diarrhea, limping, skin infections, consultations, second opinions (if prior labratory testing done), and quality of life evaluations.
We are sorry for any inconvenience!
Regular examinations are an integral part of the health of your pets. Examinations are important first line of ensuring the health of your pet. A full physical examination is recommended once to twice a year depending on the age and health status.
Spay and neuter are also a vital part of the health of your pet. Spaying and neutering helps decrease chances of cancers and infections in addition to preventing pregnancies. Dr. Lauren has spayed and neutered over 3000 pets in her career, with over 2000 in the past 3 years alone!
Surgical scheduling is on temporary hold while transitioning to our new office location.
Emergencies are offered in home depending on the problem. If you are unable to reach someone in our practice, please call Animal Emergency Services in Rochester, NY at 1-585-424-1277.
A pet microchip is the size of a grain of rice and goes beneath your pet's skin. This permanent ID can never be removed or become impossible to read. Online registration uses this ID to contact you and reunite you with your pet. Microchips can be placed during a routine physical exam or while your pet is having an anesthetic procedure.
Vaccines help prevent many illnesses that affect pets. Vaccinating your pet has long been considered one of the easiest ways to help him live a long, healthy life. Not only are there different vaccines for different diseases, there are different types and combinations of vaccines. Vaccination is a procedure that has risks and benefits that must be weighed for every pet relative to his lifestyle and health. Dr. Lauren will discuss and administer the appropriate vaccinations for your pets needs based on their lifestyle.
In home ultrasound services are being offered now. Call 585-519-4140 to schedule, referrals are currently being accepted. Dr. Lauren will perform abdominal ultrasounds, cardiac ultrasounds, pregnancy confirmations, ocular and periocular structures and more. Abdominal ultrasounds are useful diagnostic tests that look at internal architecture of our organs including the blood flow in and out of them. Ultrasound guided biopsies offer a less invasive method of taking samples from internal structures without the need of surgery (limitations apply).
Routine and advanced testing can be performed in the comfort of your home. We recommend yearly fecal, urinalysis, viral, heartworm and tick testing as screening for internal parasites. Additionally health screening packages including the above tests are available to help detect diseases earlier in life with little additional fees. As your pet gets older, advanced senior screening testing are added.
In light of the current situation with COVID-19 it is possible you can not get your pet in for an examination. We now offer telemedicine appointments to help determine the cause of the problems your pet is having. With a thorough history and video evaluation, Dr. Lauren can help manage most medical conditions that do not require laboratory testing or imaging. Medications and prescription diets can be sent directly to your home through my online pharmacy.
Periodontal disease is the most common clinical condition occurring in adult dogs and cats. By three years of age, over 70% of dogs and cats have evidence of periodontal disease. Unfortunately, other than bad breath, there are few signs of the disease process evident to the owner, and professional dental cleaning and periodontal therapy often comes too late to prevent extensive disease or to save teeth. As a result, periodontal disease is usually under-treated, and may cause multiple problems in the oral cavity and may be associated with damage to internal organs in some patients as they age. Dental prophylaxis procedures with necessary extractions are not currently available due to change in office location but will be coming soon!
QUALITY OF LIFE AND END OF LIFE CARE
Coping with the loss of a pet is one of the most difficult experiences a pet parent will face. Whether your pet is approaching their golden years or has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, it’s important to calmly guide the end-of-life experience and minimize any discomfort or distress.
As your pet’s health declines, you may elect to care for your pet at home—with the supervision of a veterinarian—or you may decide to end his suffering with euthanasia. Dr. Lauren can help work with you to determine what may be the best decision for your pet.
Welcome to Genesee Valley Visiting Vets! We offer quality family centered veterinary services at convenient times in the comfort of your own home. Our team provides quality dependable care for your 4 legged and feathered family members.
Our team’s mission is to make lasting impressions by providing exceptional veterinary service and care for your pets and family. It is our goal to improve the longevity, health and happiness of our pets through parasite and disease prevention medicine and early disease recognition and intervention.
In home ultrasound services offered, we are currently scheduling! Call us to schedule an appointment for abdominal, cardiac, pregnancy determination, ocular, and more.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY
For 11 years Maxi has been the pet of my family
I have visited different vets looking for his best well-being. unfortunately,
I have always had that feeling that I am an economic transaction. One month
ago, Maxi's physical feeling has been very delicate and was thinking it was
the end. It happened to meet Dr. Lauren who with her professionalism, kindness
and enthusiasm has managed to return Maxi to a normal state. Thank you very
much. With all our appreciation Valencia family
Dr. Wisser was wonderful with my dog. She was on time, distracted him when he needed his vaccinations by giving him a healthy treat, examined him and explained everything to us very politely. I think her hours and pricing are reasonable and she has a wealth of knowledge and compassion for animals. We will certainly call on her again.
Dr. Lauren is empathetic, kind, and understanding. She has cared for my fur-babies for years and was incredible when I had to make a hard decision about long-term care for a very special cat. Thank you!
