WE MAKE HOUSE CALLS!!!!!
Hi ! I am Dr. Lauren Wisser and I have been a veterinarian in the Genesee Valley for over 15 years. I obtained my bachelors degree from Auburn University in 2000 and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2004. I work with cats, dogs, birds and most exotic pets.
Genesee Valley Visiting Vet, PLLC was established early in 2010. In home our services include examination, laboratory testing, vaccinations, and treating medical diseases, quality of life evaluation and euthanasia services. Over the years expansions included expanded service area, surgical facility and low income spay neuter clinics.
Our newest servcie is
in home ultrasound! The ultrasound will be performed by Dr. Lauren. while you are there with your pet.
Regular examinations are an integral part of the health of your pets. Examinations are important first line of ensuring the health of your pet. A full physical examination is recommended once to twice a year depending on the age and health status.
A pet microchip is the size of a grain of rice and goes beneath your pet's skin. This permanent ID can never be removed or become impossible to read. Online registration uses this ID to contact you and reunite you with your pet. Microchips can be placed during a routine physical exam or while your pet is having an anesthetic procedure.
Vaccines help prevent many illnesses that affect pets. Vaccinating your pet has long been considered one of the easiest ways to help him live a long, healthy life. Not only are there different vaccines for different diseases, there are different types and combinations of vaccines. Vaccination is a procedure that has risks and benefits that must be weighed for every pet relative to his lifestyle and health. Dr. Lauren will discuss and administer the appropriate vaccinations for your pets needs based on their lifestyle.
Spay and neuter are also a vital part of the health of your pet. Spaying and neutering helps decrease chances of cancers and infections in addition to preventing pregnancies. Dr. Lauren has spayed and neutered over 3000 pets in her career, with over 2000 in the past 3 years alone!
Emergencies are offered in home, but limited in some cases. If you are unable to reach someone in our practice, please call Animal Emergency Services in Rochester, NY at 1-585-424-1277.
In home ultrasound services are being offered now. Call 585-519-4140 to schedule, referrals are currently being accepted. Dr. Lauren will perform abdominal ultrasounds, cardiac ultrasounds, pregnancy confirmations, ocular and periocular structures and more. Abdominal ultrasounds are useful diagnostic tests that look at internal architecture of our organs including the blood flow in and out of them. Ultrasound guided biopsies offer a less invasive method of taking samples from internal structures without the need of surgery (limitations apply).
QUALITY OF LIFE AND END OF LIFE CARE
Coping with the loss of a pet is one of the most difficult experiences a pet parent will face. Whether your pet is approaching their golden years or has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, it’s important to calmly guide the end-of-life experience and minimize any discomfort or distress.
As your pet’s health declines, you may elect to care for your pet at home—with the supervision of a veterinarian—or you may decide to end his suffering with euthanasia. Dr. Lauren can help work with you to determine what may be the best decision for your pet.
Routine and advanced testing can be performed in the comfort of your home. We recommend yearly fecal, urinalysis, viral, heartworm and tick testing as screening for internal parasites. Additionally health screening packages including the above tests are available to help detect diseases earlier in life with little additional fees. As your pet gets older, advanced senior screening testing are added.
Periodontal disease is the most common clinical condition occurring in adult dogs and cats. By three years of age, over 70% of dogs and cats have evidence of periodontal disease. Unfortunately, other than bad breath, there are few signs of the disease process evident to the owner, and professional dental cleaning and periodontal therapy often comes too late to prevent extensive disease or to save teeth. As a result, periodontal disease is usually under-treated, and may cause multiple problems in the oral cavity and may be associated with damage to internal organs in some patients as they age. Dental prophylaxis procedures with necessary extractions are provided by Dr. Lauren in the Mount Morris office as outpatient procedure.
